The R&A writes, interprets and applies the Rules relevant to clubs and balls, and determines and advises on what conforms to the Rules via an equipment and submission testing process.
The R&A constantly reviews the technological developments being made in design and manufacture and determines, via research projects, whether such developments are in the best interests of the game.
The R&A protects the tradition of the game by preventing an over-reliance on technological advances rather than skill and therefore preserving skill differentials throughout the game.
The R&A communicates effectively and regularly with equipment manufacturers and other stakeholders within the game including conducting public lectures, to benefit from their input and to ensure that any changes to the equipment Rules are fair and reasonable.
